The £28 million Royal Oldham Hospital’s major new extension open ed to patients needing emergency general and colorectal surgery care.

The building is named after former surgeon Mr Neil Hulton is a Greater Manchester hub site and it is estimated that 4,000 plus patients will be treated there each year and it s hoped that this will have a big effect on waiting times. It includes new general surgery wards with a capacity of 24 beds each and has individual rooms for those patients who need a private space. The rehabilitation and therapy rooms are spread over two floors.

The new development is named the Hulton building, a name chosen by colleagues, in The Hulton building facility has been delivered in partnership with Integrated Health Projects (IHP). The construction of the facility enabled many local people to work on the project as well as enabling learning and mentoring opportunities.  During construction, local apprentices were appointed, industrial placements secured for students and there has been the creation of jobs for clinical colleagues and support staff.
